I once asked a popular Facebook group for horror novel fans to recommend a fun horror story and the general response was a bit of confusion on the matter. The unspoken consensus seems to be that horror isn’t supposed to be fun. Or that horror and humour aren’t really made for each other. Personally I think is a giant missed opportunity.

I mean if you think about it Goosebumps is basically a tongue in cheek series of horror stories for kids, a staple of which I grew up on as a kid. And they are so good I would read them even today. Same with Stephen King, you do get humorous situations and banter, which is subtle and doesn’t detract from the main story.

Last year I wrote a short horror story based on a pet sitting experience that I had. It was an horror ode to cats who I love to bits. I launched the same story on Amazon last week and surprisingly it did quite well. So I will be writing a couple of more short stories in the same series.
