Previously: Lost in the wilderness, the group finds some help. Or so they think…
The group stares at Jake in stunned silence. The sight of their tour guide comfortably sitting in the ranger’s hut, casually munching on a Vegemite sandwich, is a hard pill to swallow.
“Jake?” Mark breaks the silence, his voice is heavy with disbelief. “What the hell is going on? We thought you were dead!”
Jake, looking guilty, swallows his bite and wipes his mouth. “Calm down, everyone. I can explain.”
“Explain?” Lisa’s voice rises. “You better have a damn good explanation for disappearing on us and leaving us to fend for ourselves!”
“We even got your stuff for you!” Luca says angrily.
Jake sighs, realizing he is well and truly cornered. He no longer has the Gopro attached to his head. Instead there’s a bank of screens sitting on a table near him, each screen displaying surveillance footage of various spots of the forest. “Alright, everyone, take a seat. There’s a lot you need to know.”
“You bet we do,” Mark mutters dropping his backpack and grabbing his water bottle.
